Fabric Care Guide

Care by cloth

Every fiber rewards a different routine.

Wool wants brushing and rest. Cashmere wants a gentle hand. Silk wants air. Linen wants forgiveness. Below is a working guide to caring for the cloths in the Centi Atelier library.

Wool

Brush, hang, rest. Steam more, dry-clean less.

Wool is self-cleaning to a remarkable degree. Brushing after every wear and a thorough steam every few wears will keep a wool suit looking new for years. Reserve dry cleaning for actual stains or after sweat-heavy days. Always rest 24 hours between wears.

Cashmere

Treat it gently. Specialist cleaners only.

Cashmere is delicate. Never machine wash. Specialist hand-wash or specialist dry cleaning only. Store flat or on a broad wooden hanger. Cedar protects from moths; never use mothballs near cashmere.

Silk & silk blends

Air after every wear. Dry clean rarely.

Silk creases freely and recovers freely. Hang in a well-ventilated space after every wear to air out. Spot clean small marks. Full dry cleaning only when truly needed — silk does not love the chemicals.

Linen

Embrace the wrinkles.

Linen is supposed to wrinkle. The pattern of wear on a linen suit is part of its language. Press lightly if you must, otherwise let the cloth move. Wash linen suits less often than you think; brush and air them more.
